Day 01: Ahmedabad-Dasada
Reach Ahmedabad and travel 90 km to Dasada from there. In the evening go
on a safari in the Little Rann of Kutch.
Located on the banks of Sabarmati River, Ahemdabad was once the capital of
Gujarat and is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. Also known as Karnavati,
Ahemdabad is also an important commercial center of India and is visited by
large number of both leisure and business tourists.
Little Rann of Kutch is a desert wildlife sanctuary and is known as the last
abode of the Asiatic wild ass in the Indian peninsula. Watch for other endangered
wildlife like the wolf, Indian and desert foxes, Indian gazelle, McQueen's
bustard, etc. Witness the sunset at Bajana Lake, where flamingos, pelicans,
demoiselle and common cranes, and other magnificent birds gather in numbers
beyond comprehension.
Overnight stay at Rann Riders. Rann Riders is an imaginatively designed safari
resort with a/c cottages built from local materials to resemble a local village
featuring long wicker beds, work table, dressing area and a tiled bath with
hot-and-cold water.
Day 02: Dasada-Gir National Park
Drive into the Little Rann for birding and animal viewing in the morning.
Later proceed to Gir and stay at Gir Birding Lodge.
Day 03: Gir National Park
On day 03 enjoy the morning and afternoon drives in the Gir National Park
and Wildlife Sanctuary.
Gir in Gujarat is a deciduous forest and is the last abode of the Asiatic lion.
Besides, the forest also has a thriving panther (leopard) population. It also
has home to large population of chital or spotted deer, sambar, blue bull antelope,
chinkara gazelle, chousingha (the world's only four-horned antelope), wild boar
and other wildlife. Besides, you will also see a large number of avian population
on the game-drive trail. Dinner and overnight stay at the Gir Birding Lodge.
Day 04 and 05: Gir National Park AND Wildlife Sanctuary
Next two days, enjoy morning and evening drives in the Gir forests. Look
for the two big cats and to watch other wildlife. You can also visit Devaliya
(enclosed area for lions), crocodile farm or also go on a nature and bird
walks with our guide.
One of the drives can be also be substituted for a visit to Somnath to see the
shore temple (one of the 12 holy abodes of Shiva), Sun Temple, Ahilya Temple
and other monuments.
Dinner and overnight at Gir Birding Lodge.
Day 06: Gir National Park-Sayla
Drive to Sayla the next morning and in the afternoon drive to watch large
herds of blackbuck antelope.
Part of the Indian state of Gujarat, Sayla was once a princely state ruled by
the Jhala Rajputs. Known for its palaces and monuments, Sayla was founded in
1751 by Seshmalj who captured Sayla from the Kathi Darbars and made it the capital
of his state
Stay overnight at Old Bell Guest House, a heritage hotel.
Day 07: Sayla-Ahmedabad
In the morning visit Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary to watch birds on the edge
of the lake. Go on a boat ride if permitted. Drive back to Ahmedabad and board
a flight for the onward destination.
