SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELLING:
The islands enchanting marine life and pristine blue lagoons present an ideal situation for divers and snorkellers. The coastal waters surrounding the islands are the abode of one of the richest coral reef eco-systems in the world. Many of the islands are surrounded by fencing reefs, often several hundred metres wide and separated from the shore by a lagoon of similar width. There are more steeply sloping reef walls and coral pinnacles or knolls.
Divers can explore the steeply undulating hills of raven volcanic lava that make for some unusual diving.
Large pelagic are plentiful in these waters, as are a variety of sharks. Large schools of hammerhead often patrol the waters away from the reefs and Grey, White tip, Nurse and Leopard sharks are found closer inshore. Silvertip and Ocean White tips sometimes appear out of the deep blue beyond. Enormous manta rays are often seen. Divers may come across numerous shipwrecks.
Dive sites in the Andaman islands include, Cinque Island, Fish Rock near Passage Island, Bala Reef near Little Andaman Island, Corruption Rock near Rutland Island and Snake Island. There are numerous sites near Havelock Island like Mac Point, Aquarium, Barracuda City, Turtle Bay, Seduction Point, Lighthouse, The Wall, Pilot Reef and Minerva Ledge.
